2011 Philippine Official Holidays

 In one of our Regular Monday Convocation, the emcee announced the official holidays for 2011 in the Philippines. As you will read later, there will be fewer  long holidays as most of the holidays fall during the weekends. President Aquino didnot move any of the holidays that falls during the weekend to the nearest Monday of Friday. We will now be expecting more work and fewer vacations for 2011. Here's the excerpt of Proclamation 84.

As per Official Gazette post, President Benigno S. Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 84 entitled DECLARING THE REGULAR HOLIDAYS, SPECIAL (NON-WORKING) DAYS, AND SPECIAL HOLIDAY (FOR ALL SCHOOLS) FOR THE YEAR 2011 today.
According to the Proclamation No. 84, the Philippines 2011 holiday are categorized into three: Regular Holidays, Special Non-Working Days and Special Holiday (for all schools).
The following days will be Regular Holidays:
  • New Year’s DayJanuary 1 (Saturday)
  • Araw ng KagitinganApril 9 (Saturday)
  • Maundy Thursday April 21
  • Good FridayApril 22
  • Labor DayMay 1 (Sunday)
  • Independence DayJune 12 (Sunday)
  • National Heroes DayAugust 29 (Last Monday of August)
  • Bonifacio DayNovember 30 (Wednesday)
  • Christmas DayDecember 25 (Sunday)
  • Rizal DayDecember 30 (Friday)
The following days are Special Non-Working Days:
  • Ninoy Aquino DayAugust 21 (Sunday)
  • All Saints DayNovember 1 (Tuesday)
  • Last Day of the YearDecember 31 (Saturday)
And a day will be Special Holiday (for all schools):
  • EDSA Revolution AnniversaryFebruary 25 (Friday)
The proclamation also have provisions for the national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha, but the exact date is still to be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar.
